  • Whole milk
  • Heavy cream
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Sugar

How to Make Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

This recipe is originally from Green & Blacks Chocolate Recipes.

  1. Put the milk, cream and cinnamon sticks in a pan and slowly bring to a boil.
  2. Remove from heat, cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. When ready to serve remove cinnamon sticks and reheat the milk.
  4. In a mug add cocoa powder and enough milk to form a paste and stir.
  5. When milk is just heated pour into mug and stir to blend, then add the sugar to taste and stir well.
  6. Serve with cinnamon sticks.

Tips & Variations

  • Add other spices. You can also add nutmeg, cardamom and ginger powder for more holiday flavor.
  • Try some toppings. A dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream turns this cocoa into a quick dessert.
  • Garnish with candy. Try topping with seasonal candies like crushed peppermint, chocolate or Christmas sprinkles or shaved chocolate curls.

Storage

This cinnamon hot cocoa is best served right after cooking on the stovetop, but could be refrigerated in a covered jar and reheated on the stovetop within one day.
