Whopper Brownies with Chocolate Malt Buttercream are rich chocolate brownies topped with decadent chocolate-malt buttercream. If you love love malted milk balls or old-fashioned chocolate malts, these brownies will be your dream come true!

These delicious fudgy brownies are only made better with the addition of chopped malted milk balls and malt powder. And the malted buttercream frosting just takes them into the realm of over-the-top fabulous!

Ingredients

For the brownies:

  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Eggs
  • All purpose flour
  • Malt powder or Ovaltine
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Malted milk balls

For the frosting:

  • Butter
  • Vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar
  • Malt powder or Ovaltine
  • Heavy whipping cream

How to Make Whopper Brownies with Chocolate Malt Buttercream

This recipe is adapted from Cookies and Cups and Eats Well with Others.

For the brownies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray.
  3. Melt chocolate and butter in a pan over low heat until the chocolate is melted.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in eggs, vanilla, and brown sugar until combined.
  5. Stir in dry ingredients, the flour, malt powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Fold in the chopped malted milk balls.
  7. Spread batter into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Let cool completely and then frost.

For the frosting:

  1. In a mixer, whip butter until creamy.
  2. Add powdered sugar, malt powder, and heavy whipping cream.
  3. Beat on low speed until desired consistency is reached.
  4. Spread on cooled brownies.
  5. Top with malted milk ball.s

Tips & Variations

  • Use flavored malt powder. You can use plain or chocolate flavored malt powder or Ovaltine for richer chocolate flavor.
  • Change the candy. You can use any brand of chocolate malt balls, not just Whoppers.
  • Change the chocolate. Use milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet for a sweeter flavor.

Storage

These brownies are best refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

For the brownies:

  • 1 11.5-oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ¾ cup all purpose flour
  • ¾ cup malt powder or Ovaltine
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped malted milk balls

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • * 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • * 2 cups powdered sugar
  • * 1 cup malt powder or Ovaltine
  • * 1-2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream

Instructions

For the brownies:

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Spray a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Melt chocolate and butter in a pan over low heat until the chocolate is melted.
