Nigella Lawson’s Guinness Stout Cake is a deep, dark, black chocolate cake with a tang of Guinness stout that adds to its richness. For a super-dense chocolate cake everyone will love, try this for your next St. Patrick’s Day feast, or for any special occasion!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I have been making all sorts of things this week with Guinness Stout, odd really, because I do not drink beer.

In addition to these Chocolate Stout Brownies I made Nigella Lawson’s Stout Cake. It is delicious! I have to say though that I disagree with Nigella, I like to have lots of frosting.

So instead of one tall cake I made layers and made my favorite Hershey’s Chocolate Frosting and in the middle I used a little leftover cream cheese frosting that I had.

You can find the recipe for the cake HERE.

Why you’ll love this Guinness Stout Cake

  • Deep, dark chocolatey flavor with a moist crumb
  • Holds up well when frosted with your favorite frosting
  • Great for St. Patrick’s Day (or any special occasion!)
  • Crowd-pleasing dessert

Tips & Variations

  • Change the frosting. I used cream cheese frosting and chocolate frosting between the layers. You can switch that up and use buttercream or chocolate buttercream.
  • Make a one-layer cake. Nigella’s original recipe is a one-layer cake with cream cheese frosting on top. Try that version, too!

Storage

This cake can be stored, covered in a cool place for 2-4 days and refrigerated for up to five days. The unfrosted layers can be wrapped in plastic wrap and frozen for up to 3 months.
