Moist, thick fudge brownies are one of my favorite treats, top them with fudge frosting and I think they are perfect.

I will warn you ahead of time that when you make these brownies, you may just eat the entire pan of frosting – it is that good.

The frosting is easy to make, creamy and definitely decadent. You can use it on brownies, cupcakes, cakes and more. I personally like it as the filling of cakes.

How to Make Fudge Brownies with Fudge Frosting

This recipe is adapted from Baker’s Chocolate.

For the brownies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Prepare a 9 x 13″ baking pan by lining it with parchment paper and then spraying it with baking spray or butter.
  3. In a large bowl melt butter and chocolate. You can use the microwave but I use a double boiler.
  4. Place the bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir occasionally until the butter and chocolate are melted.
  5. Add the sugar and mix well.
  6. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir until combined.
  7. Add the flour and mix until just incorporated.
  8. Pour mixture into pan.
  9. Bake 25-30 minutes. I like to bake them until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean with a few crumbs on it. Do not over bake.

For the frosting:

  1. Put first three ingredients in a saucepan on low.
  2. Let the sugar dissolve and then bring to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips.
  4. With a wire whisk mix until creamy and cooled.
  5. Then frost your brownies or cake and enjoy.

Tips & Variations

  • Add some nuts. Chopped toasted pecans or walnuts in the batter will add some nutty crunch.
  • Mix-in candy. Try mixing in some crushed toffee bits, peppermint candies, or chocolate chips to the brownie batter.
  • Change the frosting. Switch out the fudge frosting for vanilla buttercream, peanut butter, or coffee flavored frosting.
  • Decorate the tops. Add some colored sprinkles for a festive party mood.

Storage

These brownies are best stored in the refrigerator, covered for up to 5 days.
