Chocolate Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

At the end of the week I always have a few bananas laying around.  I have a few weird food rules and I do not like bananas that have any spots on the outside. I really only enjoy them if they are “just ripe,” so this actually happens pretty frequently.

Normally I make banana cake or plain banana bread. This weekend,  I thought I would try a Chocolate Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. It is delicious!

The bread is moist, and the addition of the chocolate and the chocolate chips makes it a little decadent and seem more like a dessert as opposed to a quick bread.

How to Make Chocolate Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

This recipe is adapted from Joy of Baking.

  1. Mix together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Stir the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter and vanilla.
  3. Carefully fold the banana mixture into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Mix in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour into greased loaf pan or 3 mini pans.
  6. Bake at 350 for 55 minutes until bread has risen and a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
  7. Cool 5 minutes in pan, then turn out onto wire rack.

Tips & Variations

  • Try different chips. Swap out for white chocolate, peanut butter, or a combo of all three chips.
  • Add toppings. Top with a dusting of powdered sugar, or make it a dessert with a drizzle of chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting.
  • Share it. Double or triple the recipe as this bread makes a great addition to a dessert tray, or make mini-loaves to give as gifts.

Storage

This banana bread can be stored in a covered container in a cool place for up to 5 days. It is best to slice as needed so it stays moist.
