The weekend is when I love to  try out new recipes, mostly baked goods but also savory eats. I thought I would share an easy and delicious recipe for chocolate buttercream frosting that I made last weekend. I put this amazing chocolate frosting on some delicious cupcakes.

My favorite part about the whole process was licking the spatula for the frosting. It is some of the best I have ever made!

This chocolate buttercream frosting recipe came from a great blog I found while perusing Pinterest, called Savory Sweet Life. I plan to make lots of cakes and cupcakes frosted with this delicious frosting!

Ingredients

  • Softened butter (Must be SOFT not melted)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cocoa powder
  • Salt
  • Vanilla extract
  • Heavy whipping cream

How to Make Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

  1. Cream softened butter in an electric mixer for a few minutes.
  2. Turn off mixer and add the cocoa powder and the powdered sugar.
  3. Start mixing on low speed otherwise you will have a huge mess.
  4. Mix ingredients until incorporated.
  5. Add the salt, vanilla and the heavy whipping cream.
  6. Mix on high for 4 minutes or until light and fluffy.

Tips & Variations

  • Change the flavoring. Try adding almond, orange, cherry, or peppermint extract for a different flavor profile.
  • Adjust the base. I used the chocolate cupcake recipe from the back of the Hershey’s box for these photos. But, you can use any type of cupcakes, brownies, and much more.
  • Add some texture. Fold in chopped nuts or mini chocolate chips for extra texture.

  1. Hello sweet one!
I dont visit this blog of yours often enough. I can't wait to try out this frosting. It sounds so sinful. I may as well just spread it all over my thighs and bum as that's where it will end up anyway 🙂
