Chocolat chaud is rich, creamy French drinking chocolate made with milk, cream and bittersweet chocolate. So delicious and so easy to make! It’s perfect for sipping in the Fall, when there’s crisp air, falling leaves, and weekends spent inside.
If you’ve visited my chocolate website often, you know by now that I am a huge fan of hot chocolate! I make this every morning instead of breakfast and I love it!
Even though I drink hot chocolate all year ’round, I love the autumn when I have stacks of books and movies streaming, a cup of Chocolat Chaud and a plate of treats, as I while away the weekends on my couch with my husband and pup.
What about you? Do you love drinking hot chocolate in Autumn? I hope you try Chocolat Chaud and enjoy! Happy Autumn, Happy Fall, Happy Day!

Heavy cream
Water
Granulated sugar
Bittersweet chocolate
How to Make Real Chocolat Chaud
In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream, water, and sugar.
Place over medium heat and whisk occasionally until the sugar is dissolved.
Increase the heat to medium-high and heat the mixture until bubbles form around the edge of the pan.
Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the chocolate.
Blend mixture with an immersion blender. You can do this in the saucepan but make sure that you are careful or you will have hot chocolate all over the kitchen!
If you do not feel like blending it then just whisk vigorously.
Tips & Variations
Add flavorings. Try flavoring with vanilla, peppermint, cherry, almond or other extracts.
Add your favorite liqueur. A pinch of Bailey’s, Kaluha, or other liqueur will elevate this chocolate drink.
Add candy. Some marshmallows, crushed peppermint candies or other goodies will add some extra zing to your chocolat chaud.
