Chocolate Caramel Apples are just like the ones from the fair, but made right at home! I’ll teach you how to make the most delicious caramel coating and my personal favorite chocolate pistachio cranberry caramel apples to celebrate the season. Such a delicious treat!
I know a lot of people enjoy caramel apples around Halloween, but I personally like to eat them all year. In fact when I am in Wisconsin, I frequently visit Amy’s Candy Kitchen for gourmet homemade caramel apples.
When I am at home I like to make caramel apples from scratch, as well as using my favorite Halloween treat, Kraft caramels. This year I made both versions, but today I showing the ones I made using Kraft caramels.
This keeps them SO easy – ready in just about 20 minutes!
Are you a fan of caramel apples? Do you have a special recipe that you use? I would love to hear about it.
Why you’ll love this Chocolate Caramel Apple recipe
Uses store-bought caramel candies for the easiest caramel glaze ever
The combination of chocolate and caramel is top notch and the tartness of the apple makes it better
Fun seasonal activity to do with kids
So many delicious topping combinations to make them your own!
Ingredients
Kraft caramels – These melt into the perfect caramel coating and you don’t have to fuss with making a sauce from scratch.
Apples – I prefer to use a tart apple, like Granny Smith, which can stand up to the sweetness of the caramel, chocolate, and toppings.
Water
Toppings – No toppings are required, but you can also add melted chocolate, pistachios, dried cranberries, crushed peppermint candies, Oreo crumbles, peanuts, and so much more. Go wild with it!
Unwrap all caramels and place in a microwave safe bowl, add water.
Heat for three minutes or until the caramels are melted.
Place sticks into the apples and dip into the caramel.
Place apples on a Silpat and place into the refrigerator.
Options: If you want to dip in chocolate, I use chocolate chips and melt them then dip the apples and roll in cranberries and pistachios.
Tips & Variations
Dry the apples. If your apples are not totally dry, the caramel will not stick. If necessary, wipe them with a towel first.
Make caramel apple bowls. If you’re hosting a party, try serving ready-to-eat caramel apple slices! Slice the apple with an apple slicer, place it in a bowl, top with a scoop of caramel sauce and their favorite toppings. So good!
Get creative with toppings. There is really no limit. Crushed pretzels, mini chocolate chips, crushed butterscotch candies, mini M&Ms, pecans…try all the different combinations!
Storage
Caramel apples can be stored wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
